Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has issued an arrest warrant for British Labour MP Tulip Siddiq, alleging her involvement in the illegal acquisition of a 670-square-meter plot in Dhaka's diplomatic zone.

The warrant is part of a broader investigation implicating over 50 individuals connected to the administration of Siddiq's aunt, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted in August 2024.

Siddiq, representing Hampstead and Highgate, resigned from her role as Economic Secretary to the Treasury in January 2025 amid scrutiny over her familial ties.

She and her legal team have denied the allegations, labeling them as politically motivated and asserting that no formal charges or evidence have been presented to her.

The ACC maintains that its case is supported by documentary evidence and has set a court date for April 27, 2025, requiring Siddiq and other accused individuals to appear.

Failure to do so may result in them being declared fugitives.

The United Kingdom and Bangladesh do not have an extradition treaty, potentially complicating any legal proceedings.
