Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong Weds Partner Sophie Allouache

Penny Wong, Australia's first openly lesbian MP, has wed her long-term partner Sophie Allouache.

Wong, who represents South Australia in the Senate and is also the first Asian-born Australian cabinet member, celebrated the union this weekend at an Adelaide winery.

The couple, together for nearly 20 years, shared their joy on Instagram with a photo from their special day. Australia legalized same-sex marriage in 2017, marking progress since the nationwide decriminalization of homosexuality in 1997.
