A male visitor sued for discrimination after being denied entry, and the court ruled that since he had paid the museum's entry fee, he should be allowed access to all areas, including the Ladies Lounge.
A Tasmanian museum, MONA, was found to have violated the Anti-Discrimination Act by refusing entry to non-ladies in a participatory installation called "Ladies' Lounge." The artist, Leigh Kaechele, argued the exclusion was intentional to reflect historical discrimination against women.
Despite acknowledging the exhibit's discriminatory nature, MONA was given 28 days to stop denying entry to men.
Kaechele expressed sadness over the court's ruling and planned to seek counsel during this period.
