His eagle came at the sixth hole, and he added four more birdies during the round. This performance put him two strokes ahead of his nearest competitors: Michael Kim, Camilo Villegas, Nate Lashley, and Tano Goya.

The tournament, called the World Wide Technology Championship, is part of the FedEx Cup Fall events, which determine eligibility for the 2024 PGA Tour season. Despite his age, Percy expressed confidence in his game and mentioned that he plans to play in the senior PGA Tour Champions and will participate in the Q-School next month.

Colombia's Camilo Villegas also had a strong round, shooting an eight-under 64 with eight birdies while hitting all 14 fairways. Several other players, including Michael Kim, Nate Lashley, and Tano Goya, were in contention before play was halted due to darkness.

The event is being played at Cardonal at Diamante, which is the first Tiger Woods-designed course used for a PGA Tour event.
