Atlantis begins to reopen in phases in July 7
Audrey Oswell, the Atlantis resort president and managing director said in an internal letter to employees: “Phase one begins July 7, 2020 when we welcome our first guests back to The Royal.” According to Oswell, Royal Bath, Mayan Temple, Power Tower, Zero Entry and Splashers will open in phase one.
“All beaches will open and Dolphin Cay will open. The main casino, spa and Marina Village will open. Some but not all of our restaurants and lounges will open.” Going forward to phase two, will depend on business volumes.
Only part of the staff will be working during the first phase and those who are not called back on phase one will continue to be on leave, said Oswell.
According to Oswall, they know that there will continue to be hardship for many of the employees. But they are making every effort to bring tourism back to previous levels so that they are able get the employees back to work.
As Atlantis calling their employees back to work, the British Colonial Hilton yesterday made a number of its employees redundant. Darrin Woods, Bahamas Hotel Catering and Allied Workers Union (BHCAWU) president said that 22 of their members were made laid off yesterday.
A Phase one reopening of the tourism sector will begin on June 15 as Bahamas moves towards reopening to international commercial travel on July 1.
