An arrest warrant has been issued for Paul Flowers, the former chairman of Co-op Bank, after he failed to appear in court to face charges of fraud. Flowers was accused of illegally attempting to gain £68,000 by abusing his position.

He was expected to enter a plea at Manchester Crown Court but did not appear, prompting the judge to issue the warrant for his arrest. Flowers had previously claimed he couldn't attend court due to health issues, including suffering a stroke.

The charges against him relate to his alleged abuse of power as an attorney for a woman named Margaret Mary Jarvis.

Flowers is accused of dishonestly abusing his position as her Enduring Power of Attorney between June 28, 2016, and October 28, 2017, with the intent to make a gain for himself, involving items such as a staircase, carpets, and 11 cheques paid to him, which is in violation of Sections 1 and 4 of the Fraud Act 2006.
