Arrest Made After Assailant Targets Passersby in Paris, Killing 1 and Injuring 2
A man who fatally stabbed a German tourist and wounded two others in Paris on Saturday has been apprehended by French authorities. The attacker, a 25 year-old French national previously imprisoned for plotting violence, vocalized his distress over Muslim deaths in Afghanistan and Palestine, asserting French complicity, according to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin. During the attack, he reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar."
The assailant, recently released in 2020 after a four-year sentence and under surveillance, was treated for psychiatric issues. Originating from Neuilly-sur-Seine and living with his parents in Essonne, he first killed a German tourist in Paris's 15th district then crossed the Seine to attack two more with a hammer.
Police incapacitated him with tasers, preventing further casualties. France remains vigilant following recent terror incidents, including the 2015 attacks which left 130 dead. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne asserted on social media that the nation would not yield to terrorism, offering condolences to victims' families.
