Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Austrian-born former California governor, was temporarily detained at Munich airport for not declaring a high-value watch, customs official Thomas Meister informed AFP.

The 76-year-old action star arrived from the U.S. and was held Wednesday afternoon but was expected to resume his travels the same day, although his watch was likely to be confiscated.

Schwarzenegger faced tax evasion charges because he planned to sell the watch in the EU. Meister mentioned that the intended sale was at a charity auction for his environmental initiative scheduled in Kitzbuehel.

The watch, a custom piece from Swiss luxury brand Audemars Piguet, was to be auctioned alongside arts and signed items for Schwarzenegger's climate project.
