Archer Aviation has selected Bristol as the location for its new United Kingdom engineering hub, marking a significant step in the company’s international expansion and reinforcing the city’s reputation as a centre for advanced aerospace development.

The US-based electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft manufacturer said the Bristol facility will focus on engineering, research and development, and collaboration with British aerospace partners.

The hub is expected to support the company’s work on its flagship electric air taxi programme as it prepares for commercial operations in multiple global markets.

Bristol was chosen for its long-established aerospace ecosystem, deep engineering talent pool and proximity to leading universities and suppliers.

The region has historic links to aircraft design and advanced manufacturing, and has increasingly positioned itself at the forefront of emerging aviation technologies, including electrification and sustainable propulsion.

Archer’s move comes as the UK government continues to promote innovation in advanced air mobility and net-zero aviation.

Officials have sought to attract investment in cutting-edge aerospace ventures, highlighting Britain’s regulatory expertise, research infrastructure and skilled workforce.

The new engineering hub is expected to create high-skilled jobs and strengthen partnerships with local companies involved in aerostructures, propulsion systems and digital engineering.

Archer said the Bristol team will play a central role in refining aircraft systems, certification processes and next-generation design capabilities.

The decision also reflects broader global momentum behind electric air taxis, which are being developed to provide short-distance urban and regional transport with lower emissions and reduced noise compared with traditional helicopters.
