The feature, designed to condense news headlines into quick notifications, has been temporarily disabled in the latest beta software update released to developers on Thursday.
This update, which affects news and entertainment alerts, will eventually be available to all users.
Apple plans to refine the tool and reintroduce it in a future update.
The summarisation feature is part of Apple's Apple Intelligence suite, an initiative launched last year as the company's initial foray into generative AI technology.
This technology has gained significant traction since the debut of ChatGPT by OpenAI.
Industry news outlet MacRumors reported on the temporary disablement, citing Apple's intentions to improve the tool and restore it later.
In the interim, the Settings app now includes a disclaimer under the notification summaries, alerting users that the feature is in beta and may still be prone to errors.
The summarisation tool was developed to consolidate notifications from disparate apps into succinct, time-saving alerts.
Despite its intended efficiency, the feature has been criticized by several news organizations due to instances of generating incorrect headlines.
Concerns have been raised about its potential to misinform users seeking accurate news.
In December, notable incidents included erroneous headlines related to events covered by the BBC.
The broadcaster formally lodged a complaint with Apple, citing a headline falsely reporting that Luigi Mangione, implicated in the death of UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson, had committed suicide.
Responding to the BBC, Apple indicated that an update to the Apple Intelligence tools would be implemented in the upcoming weeks and highlighted that usage of the summarisation feature was not mandatory.
Currently, Apple has not provided further comments on the matter.
