Nearly half of the 2,583 respondents cited poor road conditions as their biggest motoring concern, marking the highest proportion since 2015. Approximately two-thirds of respondents reported deteriorating local road conditions over the previous year.
Potholes and poor road surfaces were the primary reasons for concern, while issues like faded markings, litter, and signage visibility also contributed. The estimated cost of repairing local roads in England and Wales with pothole problems stands at £14 billion.
The RAC has called on the government to allocate a portion of fuel tax revenues to fund proper road maintenance programs, ensuring safer driving conditions for motorists.
