Postecoglou has led Celtic to two consecutive Scottish Premiership titles and a domestic treble this season.
He has limited experience in Europe, having only managed Greek lower-league side Panachaiki in 2008.
Postecoglou takes over a Tottenham side that finished eighth in the Premier League and will play in the Europa League next season.
He becomes the fourth permanent manager of Tottenham since the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino in 2019.
