Andy McDonald, a Labour Member of Parliament (MP), has been suspended from the Labour Party for making comments deemed "deeply offensive" in relation to the Israel-Gaza conflict.
In a speech at a pro-Palestinian rally, McDonald used the phrase "between the river and the sea," which has been criticized for implicitly calling for the destruction of Israel.
McDonald, however, said his words were meant as a plea to end the violence in the region. He will now serve as an independent MP while an investigation takes place.
The suspension reflects internal tensions within the Labour Party over its stance on the Israel-Gaza conflict, with some members advocating for a formal ceasefire.
