Amsterdam Cracks Down on Public Cannabis Smoking, Implements Hefty Fines

Amsterdam has enforced a ban on smoking cannabis in public spaces in the city center and limited it to cannabis coffee shops.

Those found smoking in public spaces in these areas will first be issued a warning, and if ignored, will be penalized with a 100-euro fine.

The ban is aimed at curbing the behavior of tourists and improving residents' quality of life.

Outdoor areas of coffee shops are currently excluded from the ban, but authorities may consider banning smoking on terraces if the problem is not addressed.
