Almost 300 London renters are facing 'no-fault' evictions (Section 21 notices) each week, according to new analysis. These evictions allow landlords to order tenants to leave with a minimum of two months' notice without having to prove that the tenant is at fault.
The UK government promised to ban such evictions in its 2019 manifesto, but concerns have been raised about the Renters Reform Bill's timeline for passing through Parliament, given the next expected general election in the same year.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan called the analysis "deeply concerning" and urged the government to pass the Renters Reform Bill to strengthen renters' legal protections.
