Alex Chisholm, one of the UK's top civil servants, has been appointed as the new UK chair of the energy company EDF.
Chisholm previously managed the business department that arranged the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant deal in Somerset.
This agreement, finalized in 2016, transferred the cost of the £31 billion project to UK bill payers, with completion expected in 2031.
Chisholm's new appointment was approved by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments but includes conditions such as a three-month waiting period and a two-year ban on lobbying the government.
The former permanent secretary's move is among several high-profile departures from the civil service ahead of a potential change in the governing party.
