This surge, attributed to demand for more fuel-efficient aircraft and anticipated passenger growth, was led by India with significant purchases from IndiGo and Air India. Despite ongoing supply chain challenges, Airbus delivered 735 jets, beating its goal of 720.

The A320 and A350 models, catering to short and long-haul flights, respectively, have been particularly successful. Christian Scherer, Airbus Commercial Chief, noted an earlier-than-expected recovery in aviation, with strong demand for both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft in 2023.

Airbus holds an order backlog of 8,598 planes and is innovating for the future with plans for an A320 successor and a zero-emission hydrogen-powered plane by 2035.

In contrast, Boeing registered 1,314 net orders with a focus on its 737 MAX and 787 models but faced recent safety concerns with the 737 MAX.
