Airband Seeking Additional Funding as Altnet Sector Faces Financial Squeeze

Airband Community Internet, a British altnet broadband infrastructure provider, is seeking additional funding due to a tightening financial squeeze on the industry.

Restructuring firms AlixPartners and Houlihan Lokey have been enlisted to work on a potential recapitalisation of Airband, which serves counties including Devon, Shropshire, and Oxfordshire.

The company is backed by Abrdn, the fund management group, and Amber Infrastructure Group.

In November 2021, Airband announced a £100m debt facility to accelerate its rollout to 600,000 premises by 2025.

Altnet strains are showing in the collapse of rural fibre player Broadway Partners and the search for new funding comes amid broader strains on the altnet sector.
