Ice hockey player Adam Johnson died after a match incident where his neck was cut by another player's skate. The 29-year-old Nottingham Panthers player was injured during a game against Sheffield Steelers and later pronounced dead in hospital.
The hockey community gathered at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena to pay tribute, where a memorial included signing condolence books and a moment of silence.
The event is considered a "freak accident," and mental health support was offered to those affected. A fundraising page in Johnson's memory has raised over £45,000 for charities in his Minnesota hometown. An inquest is underway, and Johnson's funeral is planned in the US.
