A Darling 1940s Cabin in Topanga Canyon

A Darling 1940s Cabin in Topanga Canyon

Originally crafted as a Sears kit home, the revamped hideaway comes with lots of outdoor space, a turnkey ADU, and tiny yurt.

Now up for grabs in Topanga Canyon, California, is a cozy 1948 dwelling that has been lovingly remodeled by its current owners. Tucked away under large, majestic oaks, the 432-square-foot cabin sits within a quiet, fenced-in sanctuary measuring nearly half an acre.

Upon arrival, a spacious outdoor seating area adjacent to the main entrance extends a warm welcome. A tall fence borders the perimeter of the property, ensuring ample privacy.

Inside, the home presents a light-filled, calming environment-a completely different aesthetic than when the current owners acquired it. "Originally a Sears kit, the cabin was in bad shape when we found it. We aimed to renovate the space gently, without increasing the footprint or losing its spirit."

As a result of its recent revamp, the small yet fully equipped residence now boasts an airy, open layout complete with all-new fixtures and designer finishes. Wide-plank hardwoods complement exposed beams that stretch across the ceilings. In the kitchen, a vintage oven and stovetop pay homage to the unit’s past, while extensive glazing frames captivating views of the surrounding landscape.

Tall, vaulted ceilings enhance the home’s overall sense of space, while long skylights above the living spaces draw in an abundance of sunshine.

Wooden accents pop against the stark white walls in the bedroom.

"When I first saw this cabin, it instantly reminded me of my childhood summers spent in the countryside," says listing agent Olga Crawford. "It’s a simple yet bright space. Whether you’re looking for an escape from the city, a writer’s studio, or a surfer’s cabin, this home provides the most perfect little retreat you could ever desire."

Dressed in a soothing shade of gray, the bathroom features all-new fixtures and ceramic tiles.

Additional seating areas are peppered throughout the cabin’s backyard.

Around the corner from the kitchen and living area is a large bedroom and bath suite, dressed in a similar neutral palette as the rest of the interior. Outside, numerous seating areas await, as well as a tiny ADU which can easily serve as an office or studio.

In addition to being situated near many state park trails, the home is also just a short drive from both the beach and Topanga Village. Keep scrolling to see more of the property, now listed for $899,000.

Steps from the main cabin is another turnkey structure-perfect for serving as a detached office.

The unit’s lush setting offers a serene -the hustle of the city feels worlds away.

In addition to the ADU, the cabin also comes with a small yurt located at the top of the property.

Perfect for taking in sunsets and sipping morning coffee, the space can also serve as a short-term tent rental.
