50 nationals and residents to return to Bahamas on 11 June
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its role as the government coordinating agency facilitating the return of Bahamian nationals and residents to The Bahamas, is pleased to advise the general public that almost fifty nationals who were stranded in the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe are set to return to The Bahamas on Thursday, 11 June 2020, on a British Airways Charter organized by the Cayman Islands Government.
The Charter is scheduled to leave London for the Cayman Islands via the Turks and Caicos Islands.
A Bahamasair flight will be on hand in the Turks and Caicos Islands to collect the Bahamian nationals and residents arriving on the Charter, as well as some nine other nationals who are stranded there, to bring them to New Providence.
The governments of the United Kingdom, the Cayman Islands, the Turks and Caicos Islands and The Bahamas worked in close collaboration to make this relief effort possible. When informed by UK High Commissioner, HE Sarah Dickson, that British Airways was coming so near to The Bahamas, the Ministry negotiated an arrangement that eventually resulted in 50 seats being set aside for Bahamian nationals and residents. The Bahamas High Commission in London quickly notified Bahamian citizens and residents in the UK and Western Europe who had registered to return to The Bahamas and was able to fill those seats. The Ministry is grateful for the assistance of High Commissioner Dickson in bringing this useful information to the attention of the Ministry. Even more grateful are the family members of those returning.
The Ministry will continue to advise members of the public if additional flights are organized.
