£23m Approved for A595 Road Scheme in Cumbria: Boosting Infrastructure and Employment Growth
Approval for a £23.1 million funding has been granted by the Department for Transport (DfT) for the construction of a new 1.4km (0.8-mile) section of road on the A595 between Chapels and Grizebeck in Cumbria.
This project is part of the larger Team Barrow initiative aimed at enhancing infrastructure to foster future employment growth at BAE Systems.
Phil Greenup, a councilor from Westmorland and Furness Council, expressed his excitement about the progress made, looking forward to the positive impact this scheme will bring.
The construction work is scheduled to commence in autumn, with the council and the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) jointly funding the project.
The CLEP is contributing over £2 million to the project, and Jo Lappin, the CLEP's chief executive, emphasized the importance of this investment in achieving the LEP's growth objectives and facilitating easier travel for businesses, employees, and the community throughout the county.
