The breaches date back over a decade, and these companies owe £6.8 million in arrears to over 63,000 workers.

WH Smith failed to pay over £1 million to 17,600 workers, while Lloyds Pharmacy owes £903,000 to 7,916 workers.

The government has fined these companies, with penalties amounting to up to 200% of the arrears owed.

The National Living Wage and Minimum Wage rose by 9.7% this April.

If an employer fails to pay the minimum wage, employees have the right to informally resolve the issue, make a formal complaint, or file a claim with an employment tribunal.
