19-Year-Old Driver Arrested After Serious Road Incident in East London
A pedestrian remains in critical condition following a late-night collision on Commercial Road.
A 19-year-old male driver has been arrested in connection with a serious road traffic incident that occurred on Commercial Road in Limehouse, East London, on Thursday evening.
The collision, which took place at approximately 21:47 BST, involved a man in his 30s who was crossing the street and was struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian was subsequently transported to a major trauma centre by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and remains in critical condition.
A second individual was also taken to a local hospital.
Following the incident, the Metropolitan Police detained the teenage driver on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
Commercial Road was closed in both directions to facilitate a thorough investigation and recovery operation.
The road remained closed for about ten hours, reopening around 08:00 BST on Friday morning.
The closure led to significant disruptions, affecting four bus routes and causing severe congestion during the morning rush hour.
The LAS responded swiftly to the collision, with their first paramedics arriving at the scene within five minutes of the call, which was received at 21:41 BST.
The response team included ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, a clinical team manager, and a trauma team dispatched from London’s Air Ambulance.
Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information or footage related to the incident to contact them by calling 101 and quoting CAD 7951/03Apr.
