US Opposes ICC Investigation into Gaza Conflict, Fears Arrest Warrants for Israeli Officials

The United States has expressed opposition to the International Criminal Court (ICC) investigating Israel's conduct during the war in Gaza.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the US does not support the investigation and questions the ICC's jurisdiction.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly discussed the issue with US President Joe Biden over the weekend.

The New York Times reported that Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Netanyahu, could be charged in an international war crimes case being considered by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC is also weighing charges against Hamas leaders.

Netanyahu reportedly asked President Biden during a call on Sunday to prevent the ICC from issuing warrants for Israeli officials, but White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki would not confirm this report.

She also declined to comment on reports that the US had warned the ICC against issuing warrants, as it could derail ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has not made any comments regarding reports of potential action against Israel.

Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Netanyahu, have spoken out against any such attempt, labeling it "outrageous." Netanyahu has vowed that Israel will never accept any action from the ICC that could undermine its right to self-defense.
