Premier Inn Faces Advertising Ban for Misleading £35 Room Rates
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned Premier Inn from advertising rooms "from only £35 a night" due to misleading information.
The ASA found that while some rooms were available at that price, only a small percentage of nights met this rate.
Premier Inn must now ensure a higher percentage of rooms are available at the advertised rate in the future.
An online ad from Premier Inn Edinburgh was the subject of the complaint, which showed 377 rooms available for £35 a night within a year of the ad running.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled against Premier Inn for advertising rooms available for £35, as only a small percentage were actually available at that price.
A complainant reported they couldn't find any rooms at that price, leading the ASA to instruct Premier Inn to ensure a significant proportion of advertised rooms are available at the advertised price in the future.
Premier Inn acknowledged their mistake and apologized for any confusion.
A spokesperson explained that a £35 offer led to a higher-than-expected room sales volume, causing the company to fail to update their ad pricing in time.
This resulted in a non-compliance issue.
The company has implemented new processes to prevent this from happening in the future and is confident that the issue has been resolved.
