Birmingham Airport Temporarily Halted Due to False Alarm on Aer Lingus Flight
On Tuesday, Birmingham airport temporarily suspended operations due to a security incident on a plane.
Initial reports suggested a suspicious item on board, but it was later determined to be harmless by the West Midlands police.
The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew had disembarked by evening.
The airport reopened at 6pm, and travelers were advised to check in as normal.
Several flights arriving at the airport were delayed, with flights from around 4:20 pm being affected.
An undeclared item was discovered on an Aer Lingus flight from Birmingham to Belfast, which took off at 2:52 pm.
Aer Lingus confirmed that the item was not a security risk and that they were working to accommodate affected passengers.
When the plane landed, its passengers were safely evacuated.
A false alarm led to a rapid assessment and search of a plane at Birmingham airport by police and specialists.
The incident caused potential flight delays and the UK threat level from terrorism remains at "substantial," meaning an attack is likely.
Airline staff are encouraged to report any suspicious activity.
